EASY

The traveller in you loves to take time to discover: daily walks to visit the sites and meet local cultures and communities.

  • Walking time: 1 to 3 hours max per day
  • Elevation gain: 0 to 300 m max per day
  • Pack-carrying: day backpack only
  • Fitness level: you are in good health and have an open mind

MODERATE

You are in good physical shape and you enjoy walking. Remoteness and moderate altitude are not a problem for you.

  • Walking time: 5 to 7 hours max per day
  • Elevation gain: 500 to 800 m max per day
  • Pack-carrying: day backpack only
  • Fitness level: you exercise fairly regularly and are able to walk 10 to 15 km per day

SUSTAINED

You want to walk 7 to 8 hours a day, point to point and self-sufficient, for several consecutive days (5 to 10 days) with significant elevation gains.

  • Walking time: 7 to 8 hours max per day
  • Elevation gain: 800 to 1200 m max per day
  • Pack-carrying: day backpack only, save for rare exceptions
  • Fitness level: you exercise weekly and are able to walk 15 to 20 km per day

COMMITTED

You are a serious athlete and you love a challenge. You know how to handle intense, prolonged effort, major elevation gains up to high-mountain walking, and sometimes harsh weather conditions.

  • Walking time: 7 to 10 hours max per day
  • Elevation gain: 1200 to 2000 m max per day
  • Pack-carrying: all your gear on your back when trekking, or in pulkas for polar expeditions
  • Fitness level: you train intensively year-round and are able to walk 15 to 25 km per day
